A Lapeer County fire department is mourning the sudden passing of their fire chief. The Burlington Township Fire Department announced the passing of their fire chief, Mark Schank, Tuesday afternoon.
The passing was unexpected, with only a Facebook post made Monday evening requesting prayers for a member hinting at something amiss for the department.
Assistant Fire Chief Jim Ryes announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, asking for prayers for both the family and the department, and noting that arrangements will be announced when they are finalized.
