A former state representative who also served as a Tuscola County commissioner passed away yesterday after a bout with lung cancer.
Both a former state representative and state senator, Mike Green passed away on March 28, 2024 at the age of 75. His son, current state representative for Michigan’s 67th House District Phil Green, shared the news this morning via an official statement.
Before first being elected to the Michigan House in 1994, Mike Green worked for 28 years as a tool and die maker at General Motors, and served for eight years as a Tuscola County commissioner. He went on to be elected in 2010 to the state senate, representing a district covering parts of Arenac, Bay, Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola counties.
Outside of the state Legislature, Green served Tuscola County on several boards and commissions, including as chairman of the Michigan Association of Counties and a member of the Tuscola County Mental Health Board. An avid outdoorsman, he also was a member of both the National Rifle Association and the Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners.
He is survived by his wife, his five children, and his many grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being made through Avram Funeral Home in Mayville.
