After six drug overdoses in 11 days, a medical examiner for five Michigan counties is warning citizens and first responders to be wary of a bad batch of fentanyl.
Dr. William Morrone, who serves as medical examiner for the counties of Tuscola, Arenac, Bay, Iosco and Midland, notes that the frequency of overdoses is unusual, with two clear drug overdoses reported in Tuscola County within the last 24 hours alone.
While Dr. Morrone urges affected citizens to get into treatment first and foremost, and strongly endorses that suggestion, he also wants to remind those possibly coming into contact with fentanyl to obtain Narcan and test strips, and to never use drugs alone.
In addition to local departments, such as the Marlette Police Department, having Narcan and test strips available for first responder and community member pickup, several pharmacies across the Thumb area are approved to dispense Narcan. Those obtaining Narcan via a pharmacy do not need an individual prescription or a patient identified to receive the medication.
