With the end of April comes the end of Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the accompanying patrols many police agencies participated in over the past four weeks.
One such agency was the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, with a collective extra 132 hours put into the past month patrolling the roads for distracted drivers. Other traffic infractions were also handled during the patrol period. The Sheriff’s Office reports 161 traffic stops over the past month, with 47 speeding tickets issued, 13 texting and driving citations given, and 26 hands-free violations reported.
“As always, the goal of these campaigns is for people to practice safer driving, whether it be to think twice before picking up their phone or to buckle up before hitting the road,”Sheriff Mat King said via social media, adding that, “If one life is saved as a result, it is worth it.”
