In addition to approving the county’s participation in the fiscal year 2025 grant application for the Thumb Area Regional Community Corrections, the Sanilac County Commissioners met Tuesday to discuss the posting and filling of the equalization director position.
Wendi Willing, who will be leaving the position, was appointed director in June 2010 after the retirement of predecessor Sandra Drew. The position, which is a required one under the General Property Tax Act, collects and analyzes sales data, ensures and assists in fair and equitable assessments and is responsible for an annual report to the State Tax Commission. As part of Tuesday’s approval, the commissioners agreed that the position may be posted as a contractual employee, though at present, the position is full-time.
Also approved at Tuesday’s meeting was the food services agreement between the county jail and Thumb Correctional Food Services, as well as the upgrade of the jail’s HVAC system, not to exceed $5,200. Originally slated to accept the Drug Task Force’s 2023 annual report at Tuesday’s meeting, the commissioners moved instead to save the task for the next meeting on May 21, so that DTF Director Jim Johnson can attend the meeting and provide any necessary clarification.
