After holding off on approving the report last meeting, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners are slated to hear the 2023 Drug Task Force Annual Report from task force director, Jim Johnson during tomorrow’s meeting at 1:00 p.m.
Johnson will not be the only presenting something for approval by the commissioners, with Erin Carlson, Sandusky High School teacher and Key Club sponsor, to present details and answer questions about a Veteran Remembrance Monument for the courthouse lawn.
Though Sandusky Schools have placed flags and plaques on the courthouse lawn to honor Armed Service Veterans for many years, recent years have seen the number of plaques grow and the accompanying labor and time needed to install them increase as well, to the point possible alternatives were being sought and discussed.
With the discussions, it was decided that a new monument should be placed on courthouse grounds, opposite of the current monument. The prospective monument will hold at least 1,000 names, and be shorter than the current courthouse monument.
With fundraising for the project to begin soon, the Sanilac County Community Foundation will be taking the lead for those particular efforts.
Also on the table at the commissioners’ meeting tomorrow are several authorizations and awarding of contracts for county projects, such as contracts for painting at the recycling center, improving the Evergreen Park residence, and surveying Lexington Park.
