The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is investigating the death of a Deckerville man as the 10th workplace death reported in the state this year. The state agency reported in preliminary findings that the 62-year-old owner and auto repair mechanic was working on a car in his shop last Wednesday, May 15. Though he had been using a jack to lift the vehicle during the repairs, the vehicle fell on the man, crushing him and prompting his wife to call for help. Unfortunately, the mechanic died of his injuries, with the Sanilac County Medical Examiner investigating the death as well. MIOSHA offers several resources to assist in ensuring that your workplace is safe. The Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division provides workplace safety and health training and consultations to employers and employees throughout Michigan free of charge. The incident in Deckerville remains under investigation, with the deceased man’s name not being released at this time.
