Michigan State Troopers at the Caro Post are reminding citizens to keep your house and vehicles locked after a May 26th incident gave a Huron County homeowner a scare.

Troopers were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, to the 5900 block of Pigeon Rd of Huron County’s Oliver Township after the homeowner reported a person attempting to get into a residence. The homeowner reported that he saw a man walking around the residence and trying to open locked doors, with the authorities called after he lost sight of the stranger.

Caro Post troopers and a deputy from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office searched the home, finding the suspect asleep on the floor in the property’s basement. The 41-year-old North Branch man was intoxicated but taken into custody without incident, and lodged at the Huron County Jail.

The man told police that he had been coming from a party when he committed his break-in, having thought he knew the people at the residence. It is unclear if any charges will be pressed for the man’s mixup.
