Thanks to the collaborative effort of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, US Customs and Border Protection, and Los Angeles Police Department, a 56-year-old Chinese National was arrested and extradited back to Michigan to face a charge of criminal sexual misconduct.
56-year-old Chinese National Zhijie Wang became the target of investigation by the St. Clair County’s Detective Bureau in 2021, fleeing the state after initial investigations were conducted. In January 2024, St. Clair County detectives, with the aid of Homeland Security Investigations, found that the subject was residing in California, with a full extradition warrant sought by the detective bureau and obtained through the St Clair Prosecutors Office.
Wang was taken into custody on May 2nd at the Los Angeles International Airport, having been detained by US Customs and Border Protection, and ultimately arrested on the St. Clair County warrant by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The subject was then held at a Los Angeles County detention facility in California until he could be returned to Michigan.
He was brought back to Michigan last week, with agents from Homeland Security Investigations and a St. Clair County Sheriff Task Force member completing the extradition of the Chinese National on May 30. Wang is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail. He was arraigned on the charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct 3rd degree, given a $100,000 bond and is scheduled for a probable cause conference at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11.
