After a recent transformation, Sanilac Great Start Collaborative is welcoming Peck Coin Laundry as a Talking is Teaching learning center.
As a partner in the national Talking is Teaching campaign, Sanilac Great Start Collaborative and now Peck Coin Laundry hope to promote the importance of early brain and language development and empower parents with easy ways to talk, read, and sing with their children from birth. With almost 60% of children in the United States unprepared or lagging behind in language and reading skills when entering kindergarten, the Talking is Teaching campaign recognizes that simple, everyday actions can build children’s brains and set them up for success in school and beyond.
With families spending an average of 2.5 hours during a weekly laundromat visit, the program seeks to engage children’s minds wherever they are. Over 150 laundromat owners nationwide have installed Talking is Teaching spaces like the one in Peck, which features colorful posters full of kid-friendly imagery and simple conversation prompts. There are also books, informational flyers, and more to keep both children and parents engaged during the entire visit.
Peck Coin Laundry is located at 7 West Lapeer in Peck. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 8:00pm. Additional Talking is Teaching learning center locations include the Sanilac County Health Department in Sandusky and Ember Health & Wellness Center in Lexington.
