A St. Clair County woman had to recheck her $1 million Deluxe Cash ticket daily to make sure she wasn’t seeing things after winning the game’s $1 million top prize.
The lucky 76-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at the Kroger store, located at 66900 Gratiot Avenue in Richmond. Richmond is about 25 miles southwest of Port Huron.
“Every time I buy Lottery tickets, I buy $20 worth, so I purchased two $1,000,000 Deluxe Cash tickets on my way out of Kroger,” said the player. “I scratched the tickets when I got in my car, and when I saw I’d won $1 million, I thought to myself: ‘This can’t be real!’”
Taking the ticket back into the store to scan it, she was greeted with a message telling her to file a claim with the Lottery Office, and then, she knew it was real, saying now, “I have looked at the ticket every day since I won to make sure I’m not just seeing things.”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With her winnings, she plans to pay bills and then save the remainder, with the prize providing a nice financial cushion for the winner and her husband.
