A Croswell man suffered serious burns after an accident early Sunday morning in Sanilac Township ended with a minivan in a ditch and on fire.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, reporting a vehicle on fire in a ditch on Applegate Road near Harneck Road in Sanilac Township. Sheriff’s deputies, Sanilac EMS and the Applegate Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Initial investigation found that the vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, was being driven west on Applegate Road by a 28-year-old Croswell man when it left the roadway, crashing into the north ditch and later catching fire.
The vehicle was unoccupied when emergency responders arrived at the crash scene, but the driver was located a short time later down the road. The driver and minivan’s sole occupant suffered serious burns as a result of the crash and was transported by Sanilac EMS to Port Huron McLaren.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
