A music teacher at a Lapeer charter school has been fired from his position amidst an investigation into inappropriate messages sent by the teacher to a decoy.
The Chatfield School, located in Lapeer, announced several weeks ago on Friday, June 21, that they had been informed of social media posts about a teacher’s behavior and that he had been suspended.
That same day, as directed by the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office, police executed a search warrant at the home of Keith Corbett, who taught music for over a decade at the public charter school for grades kindergarten through eighth.
Though the school did reassure parents that there was no information or evidence suggesting any students came to harm, within a week of the initial suspension, Chatfield School had posted the music teacher position. The administration further informed families that Corbett had been banned from campus and during his short suspension, had restricted his access to school-issued technology.
