Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office mourns retired former Sheriff Virgil Strickler

It is with deep sadness that the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of esteemed retired Sheriff Virgil Strickler on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Sheriff Strickler started his law enforcement career in 1971 in the City of Sandusky following a tour in the United States Air Force of which he would also complete a tour in Vietnam. Sheriff Strickler dedicated 20 years of service to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, leading with integrity, courage, and a steadfast commitment to the community.

During his tenure at the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Strickler made significant contributions to public safety, community outreach, and the overall betterment of the agency. He was a respected leader, a mentor to many, and a true champion of justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheriff Strickler’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him. The family has arranged visitation and memorial services through Hacker Funeral Parlors in Sandusky, MI.

A memorial service for Sheriff Strickler will be held this Friday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sandusky. Visitation will be at the Hacker Funeral Parlors in Sandusky on Thursday July 25th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Friday at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
