McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarship Awarded to Local Students

Two local students interested in pursuing healthcare professions were recently awarded McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships.
“We are so honored to have the opportunity to meet the next generation of healthcare professionals and to learn about their future goals,” said Megan Burgess, Nurse Practitioner at McKenzie Rural Health Care and member of the McKenzie Medical Staff Scholarship Committee. Both students received $1,000 scholarships.

Olivia Findlay graduated from Marlette High School and plans to pursue a career in the field of healthcare. In high school, Olivia played volleyball, basketball, and track. She was also involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Business Professionals of America, HOSA, and  held class officer roles, served as a sports camp counselor, participated in track and basketball camp, served on the prom committee, and volunteered for the Monster Mash and Park Prance events for Marlette Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Olivia served as a volunteer coach for 6th grade girls’ basketball.
Michelle Pedler graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School and will be studying biochemistry, environmental biology, environmental science, healthcare, and plant pathology. She aims to pursue a master’s degree in forensic psychology and then a doctoral degree to become a forensic psychologist. During her school years, she participated in powerlifting and has been active in a variety of activities, including the Hydrocephalus Warrior Walk, high school concession stands, Red Cross blood drives, canned food drives, Sanilac County Humane Society, Buel Church donation drive, 4-H, National Honor Society, Student Council, Conservation Club, Girl Scouts, and Flames Booster Club.

The McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to Sanilac County graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university and planning to become healthcare professionals. Selection criteria are based on academic achievement, community service, and accomplishments.
