Lexington Township dog-moped collision injures two; alcohol believed involved

A Tuesday accident in Lexington Township injured two and saw a dog being struck by a Moped.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a report shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, reporting a personal injury traffic crash involving a Moped hitting a dog near the intersection of Wildcat and Peck roads in Lexington Township. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene with Croswell Fire and Rescue, and Croswell EMS.
Investigation determined that a 2013 Kymco Agility Moped was headed north on Wildcat Road when a dog from a nearby residence ran into the roadway and caused the collision. The driver, a 39-year-old Port Huron man, and his passenger, a 43-year-old Yale woman, required medical attention, being first treated at the scene before transport to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for further treatment.
Helmets were not in use and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Names are being withheld as the accident remains under investigation, with the dog’s condition unknown.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Croswell Police Department and Lexington Police Department.
