Though Tuscola County voters will have only one major contested candidate race to vote on in next week’s primary, they have four millage proposals to consider, with three to renew and one to newly approve.
Tuscola County voters are being asked to choose the Republican candidate for sheriff out of three choices: Brian R. Harris, current jail administrator of the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office; Ryan Robinson, Tuscola County Sheriff’s Sergeant; and Brandon J. Putnam, of reality TV show “Meet the Putmans” fame.
Meanwhile, the millages voters are asked to renew for the next eight years concern funding for recycling, senior citizen programming, and the county sheriff’s road patrol.
The current recycling millage levies .1500 mills ($.15 for each $1,000 of taxable value), while the senior programming’s levy is 0.32 mills ($0.32 per $1,000 of taxable value) and the road patrol millage is 1.3300 mills ($1.33 per $1,000 of taxable value). The newest millage Tuscola County voters are being asked to approve is for a senior citizen home delivered meal program, with the 0.20 mills ($0.20 per $1,000 of taxable value) levy to be done over five years.
