With a little under two weeks until the start of the 2024-2025 School Year, the Croswell-Lexington School Board met this past Monday with the goal to utilize funds from the educator compensation program and news concerning state inspections.
School board members unanimously approved the disbursement of grant funds to the district’s teachers. As part of this year’s state budget, Sec. 27l (or the Educator Compensation Program) allows schools to award educators about $50 per pupil in additional compensation with a total of $63.8 million to be offered statewide. Cros-Lex worked with the Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) to calculate the district’s award and will disperse the money as staff bonuses. The total amount to be released is around $92,000 or $820 per teacher.
State transportation inspections also finished on August 2 with Cros-Lex having passed those for 2023-2024 School Year. There were no deficiencies reported. All school buses within Michigan receive a yearly inspection between September 1 and August 31. There are three columns that may be indicated during an inspection, including “RED,” “YELLOW,” and/or “PASS.” Buses in the red are labeled unsafe and must be repaired before being driven, while those in the yellow–despite being considered safe for transportation–must be repaired within sixty days and are deemed unsatisfactory. According to the state’s inspection manual, all twenty-two of Cros-Lex’s buses met the “PASS” column’s requirements, determining that their conditions were satisfactory.
The next school board meeting will be held in the Middle School Media Center at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024.
