A bomb threat at Marlette Regional Hospital prompted all Aspire Rural Health System locations to go into lockdown Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Marlette Police Department was contacted shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16, about a possible bomb threat at Marlette Regional Hospital, with preliminary information indicating that a patient from Caro had made a statement regarding the hospital’s security and safety.
Though it was determined that the threat was made in Caro and not made directly towards the hospital, Aspire Rural Health System immediately placed that facility and others into lockdown, pending further information. The Caro Police Department was able to quickly locate the patient that made the threat, and he was taken into custody, being lodged at the Tuscola County Jail.
Meanwhile, Marlette Police requested assistance from Lapeer City Police, who provided Officer Larry Taylor and K-9 Bernie to search the Marlette hospital. The search turned up nothing of concern, with Aspire Rural Health Systems reopening their locations to the public around 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Caro Police continue to investigate the incident.  The Marlette Police Department was assisted by the Caro Police Department, Lapeer City Police K9 and Sanilac Central Dispatch.
