Three injured in Tuesday’s multi-vehicle semi-truck accident outside Cass City

accident-2

A multi-vehicle accident in Greenleaf Township saw three semi-truck drivers taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a serious traffic crash at the intersection of Van Dyke and Cass City Roads. The caller reported three semi-trucks had crashed, with two colliding head on and the third veering into a ditch. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene outside of Cass City.
Preliminary investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office revealed a 2024 Freightliner stake truck had been eastbound when its driver, a 30-year-old man from Davison, failed to yield to oncoming traffic while attempting to turn north onto Van Dyke Road. As he tried to turn, he collided with a southbound 2003 Kenworth truck and box trailer. The impact caused both trucks to strike a northbound 2018 Kenworth truck as it waited to turn west onto Cass City Road.
The Freightliner’s driver was treated at the scene by Cass City MMR and transported to Hills and Dales Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the 2003 Kenworth truck was identified as a 66-year-old Lapeer man, who was also taken to Hills and Dales Hospital, but by personal vehicle, for possible injuries. The 2018 Kenworth truck was driven by a 54-year-old Clifford man, who was treated on the scene by Marlette EMS and transported to Marlette Regional Hospital for further treatment.
Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by several agencies, including Cass City Fire Department, Harbor Beach Fire Department Hazmat, Cass City MMR, Marlette EMS, Sanilac County Road Commission, MDOT, and Bartnik’s Towing.
The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. No additional information is available at this time.
