A three-vehicle traffic crash in Marlette Township Wednesday evening saw two drivers injured but the third unharmed.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a report of an accident around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, on Van Dyke Road near Reynolds Road. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Marlette Fire Department and Marlette EMS, were dispatched to the scene.
Investigation determined that a 2017 GMC Terrain was headed north on Van Dyke Road when its driver, a 74-year-old Lapeer woman, slowed down to turn left into a private drive. This prompted the vehicle behind her, a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, to also slow down.
However, this slow-down was not noticed by the third driver, a 17-year-old girl from North Branch, with the girl’s 2012 Jeep rear-ending the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and pushing the vehicle into the GMC.
The GMC’s driver was injured and treated on scene before transport to Marlette Regional Hospital, while the Silverado’s driver, a 19-year-old Marlette woman, was also injured and taken to MRH. The Jeep’s driver was uninjured in the crash.
The names of those involved are being withheld as the traffic crash remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
