A man from Indiana has been found again by Huron County authorities, this time in the home of a Harbor Beach resident after the man fled a local hospital’s psychiatric care.
Disappearing from Harbor Beach Hospital through a window early yesterday morning, the man was found several hours later by a resident of Harbor Beach’s Second Street. Upon return to custody, the man was treated for a leg injury sustained from jumping from the hospital window.
Charges are being considered for the man, as he illegally entered the residence he was later found in. A mental health evaluation has also been ordered.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office reports that their officers first came across the man shortly after 12 a.m. Monday morning in the White Rock area of Sherman Township. The 40-year-old man, who had driven from Indiana to Huron County for unknown reasons, was found by deputies standing in the roadway.
The man is believed to have no ties to the area, and was reportedly suffering from hallucinations when he was found, with deputies taking him to Harbor Beach Hospital for psychiatric care. However, less than six hours after dropping him off, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office were called back to the hospital, as the man had disappeared.
Agencies assisting in the search efforts were the Harbor Beach Police and Fire Departments, with the Tuscola Sheriff’s Office sending a K-9 and handler to assist in the search
