The Thumb area was battered by last night’s storms, with over 10,000 DTE customers around the Thumb reporting outages.
Lapeer, Huron and St. Clair counties are the most affected, with the storm outages affecting an estimated 4,546 customers in Lapeer County; 2,721 customers in Huron County; and 2,020 customers in St. Clair County.
The outages have even resulted in a few school closings, with the likes of Imlay City and Unionville-Sebewaing school districts being affected.
DTE reports that thousands of their employees, as well as 1,200 line workers from outside of the area, are in the field today addressing power outages. They expect that 90% of customers impacted by the storm will have their power restored by the end of the day on Thursday.
DTE asks that people continue to stay at least 25 feet from any downed wires and anything those wires touch.
