The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) estimates it will complete the new stage of roadwork in Sandusky by November, but drivers can expect plenty of detours in the meantime.
The new stage of work began Thursday, September 26, and sees the intersection of M-46 and Maple Valley/Dawson Street rebuilt. As part of the stage, M-46 will be reopened between Maple Valley and Delaware Streets. When this portion of M-46 is reopened, the approaches to the Maple Valley/Dawson Street intersection will close for rebuilding, with M-46 through-traffic maintained via temporary traffic signals during the work.
Dawson Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, N. Elk Street and Argyle Street. Maple Valley Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, M-19 and Speaker Street. As work continues along M-19, northbound M-19 traffic is detoured via Miller Road, Campbell Road and M-46. Southbound traffic will remain on M-19.
In 2025, work will begin on resurfacing M-46 from the Sandusky east city limit to the Carsonville west village limit and replacing the M-46 bridge over the Black River.
