Canadian woman freed from vehicle following Lexington Township crash

A Canadian woman had to be extricated from her vehicle following a two-vehicle crash in Lexington Township last Friday.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, reporting a crash on Old 51 near Roach Road. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies, Croswell Fire Department and Croswell EMS were dispatched to the scene. Initial investigation determined that a 78-year-old woman from Sarnia, Ontario, was driving north on Old 51 in her 2015 Chevrolet Equinox when she slowed to turn into a private driveway.
As she did so, the vehicle behind her, a 2021 Ford Edge driven by a 21-year-old man from Brockway, attempted to pass the Equinox, but instead struck its rear. The collision sent the Equinox into the ditch, overturning and trapping the woman in the vehicle. The Ford Edge also entered the ditch, sustaining extensive damage. Croswell Fire personnel were able to extricate the woman from the Equinox, and she was treated on scene by Croswell EMS before being transported to McLaren Port Huron for further medical treatment.
The Ford Edge’s driver was evaluated by Croswell EMS on scene. Deputies were assisted on scene by the Croswell Police Department.
