A Huron County man was found guilty Tuesday on two counts of domestic violence and one count of malicious destruction of a building for his actions in February 2024.
The charges against Jeffery Sample stem from a February 29 altercation between Sample and a woman, which started while Sample was intoxicated, and saw Sample grabbing and throwing the victim on a bed before she was able to retreat to a bathroom. However, Sample followed her, and during the ensuing argument, he knocked the contents of a child’s potty chair on the victim, the bathroom walls, and the floors, and proceeded to break down the bathroom door when the victim attempted to clean herself up.
When interviewed by Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy David Navock, Sample admitted to both breaking the door and knocking the potty chair on the victim.
He was arraigned for the incident on March 4, on domestic violence–second offense, later amended to two counts of domestic violence–second offense, and malicious destruction of a building. It only took the jury an hour following trial this past Tuesday to find Sample guilty on all charges.
A Domestic Violence – Second Offense Charge carries a sentence of up to one year in jail. A Malicious Destruction of a Building charge carries a sentence of up to 93 days in jail.
Judge David Herrington will sentence Sample next Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
