Voters in Huron and Lapeer counties will be asked to vote next month on proposed public service millages and more, with neither county having any county-wide measures on the ballot.

Huron County voters in Winsor Township will be asked to renew a 0.5 mill ($.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) tax limitation increase to fund the Pigeon Historical Society for six years. The millage, which would raise less than $20,000 in its first year, would specifically fund operation, building and maintenance costs of the society’s buildings and grounds.

The Village of Elkton, meanwhile, are asking residents to reapprove an expired tax levy rate to fund the village’s ambulance services for six years. The proposal is looking to renew the 0.5 mill rate, which would raise almost $9,500 in the first year.

In Lapeer County, Almont Township is looking for approval of a general tax limitation increase of 1 mill to fund the operation and maintenance of the township fire department, as well as purchase of necessary equipment, while the village of Clifford is seeking a nine-mill increase on the general tax limitations, which would last through 2034 and raise almost $55,000 in its first year, to fund police protection.

Finally, Hadley Township is proposing that spirits, mixed drinks, beer and wine be permitted for consumption and sale on premises in the township following certain laws and provisions.
