An early morning accident this past Saturday saw a driver and a police officer taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the driver disregarded a traffic signal.
According to the Port Huron Police, an officer was traveling south on 24th Street on the morning of November 2, when the collision occurred at the Dove Street intersection. A Dodge Ram, driven by a 52-year-old St. Clair resident, was eastbound on Dove Street when the driver disregarded a flashing red light and collided with the police vehicle.
Emergency medical services promptly responded, transporting both the officer and the driver to the hospital. Both individuals were later released with only minor injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Ram has been cited for disregarding a flashing red light, causing an accident.
The department is reminding the local community that every year, preventable accidents occur when drivers fail to observe traffic signals, ignore road signs, or get distracted, and that this can be prevented by staying alert, driving defensively, and using caution in all situations to stay aware of other vehicles, pedestrians, signs and signals.
