In addition to appointing Jeff Lyall and Mark Teale to the Veterans Affairs Committee, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners approved for Administrator Nathan Roskey to retain legal services to challenge a state commission order at their November 5th meeting.
Retaining the Foster-Swift law firm for the job, the county wishes to challenge the Michigan Public Service Commission’s October 10th approval of the application process for renewable energy and energy storage siting.
This is not the first time the county has opposed a move by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MSPC) – in September 2023, board chairman Jon Block voiced his disapproval of ceding control over local zoning to the state for solar and wind projects, as proposed by governor Gretchen Whitmer for the MSPC.
Last year, the board approved a resolution to oppose the state’s consideration; this year, with Public Act 233, the act that gives the commission that zoning authority, due to go into effect on November 29, 2024, the board chose to retain counsel as they look to stand their ground on the matter.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved the posting of two job positions for the county– that of an attorney/referee for the Friend of the Court, and a legal secretary for the prosecutor’s office.
