The Huron County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 51-year-old Caseville man was arrested over the weekend for breaking and entering.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 24, Huron County Sheriff Deputy Chester Kowalski was in Caseville when he decided to check a Birch Street vacation home that had been broken into the previous day. While doing that check, an unsecured door was found, with the officer and his backup, Deputy Alex Jobes, entering the residence.
Inside, they found a man sleeping in a bed, with it quickly determined he did not belong in the home. He was taken into custody, and it was learned he had broken into the residence at least three times in the past month, as well as breaking into another home on Main Street the month prior.
The man was arrested on three felony charges related to breaking and entering, being lodged at the Huron County Jail. Official arraignment on those charges happened yesterday, November 26, with 51-year-old Daniel J. Schmidt of Caseville remaining lodged at the jail unable to make bond.
Further charges are possible after the investigation wraps up.
