For the 11th year in a row, anonymous cash donors in Huron County have started coming in to continue hopes of brightening a few Christmases of those who have endured some type of big setback this year.
In a couple weeks, Huron County Sheriff deputies will begin delivering cash gifts or food gift certificates typically of $100 to people or families who have experienced a hardship related event during the past year. Some examples of those hardships include losing a loved one, serious illness, grandparents having to raise grandchildren, losing a job because the place of employment closes, etc.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office will also contribute to a couple of non-profit organizations committed to providing services to homeless or other displaced individuals.
Recipients are sought out through local police agencies, clergy, municipal and school leaders and other organizations. Complete distribution normally takes until New Year’s Day because the Deputies try to deliver the gifts unannounced and the recipients aren’t always home when they try.
By year’s end, between this 11-year program and a previous 9-year partnership with Toys for Tots, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office will have collected and distributed a combined total of over $316,000 in cash and toys that have directly impacted thousands of Huron County citizens, both young and old.
Anyone wishing to contribute to this cause is asked to contact the office at 989-269-6500 during regular business hours.
