Sanilac County man injured during Wednesday afternoon camper fire

A camper fire Wednesday afternoon resulted in a man being injured, according to the Port Sanilac Fire Department.

Shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 911 call for a camper fire at a storage unit on M-25, north of Forester Road. The Port Sanilac Fire Department was immediately dispatched, requesting mutual aid from Deckerville Fire Department due to a second camper catching on fire. While en-route to the location, it was determined that there was also a man on fire who needed medical attention.

Upon arrival, the fire department requested more manpower and tankers from Carsonville Fire Department, with the department’s Medical First Responders rendering aid to the patient until Sanilac EMS arrived on scene. The patient was then Airlifted by Beaumont 1 to a hospital for treatment while crews remained on the scene for several hours.

The fire remains under investigation by the Port Sanilac Fire Department, the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office and the MSP Fire Marshal.
