Further details have been released following the arraignment of an Imlay City man who was arrested over the weekend after firing a gun several times and damaging neighboring property.
Keegan Gerard Jackman, 21, of Imlay City was arraigned in the 71-A District Court in Lapeer on several counts involving discharging a firearm and malicious destruction of property, including intentional discharge at dwelling (10-year felony); attempted malicious destruction of property of an Imlay City Police Vehicle (a two-year felony); malicious destruction of property of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Police Vehicle, a four-year felony; possession of a firearm while under the influence, a 93-day misdemeanor; and reckless discharge of a weapon, a 90-day misdemeanor.
Both the Lapeer County Sheriff’s patrol car and the Imlay City Patrol car will be evaluated this week for their respective damage estimates. Both departments will likely seek restitution for the damages to the patrol cars.
The charges stem from a Saturday morning incident wherein Jackman began discharging a loaded shotgun in the backyard of his home in the 400 block of Bancroft Street of Imlay City. Several of his neighbors called 911, with some of the fired rounds striking a neighbor’s home and surrounding property. He was taken into custody after his gun jammed, with the arresting officer requiring assistance from a Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputy, with Jackman allegedly damaging both officers’ vehicles.
As of a prior press release, Jackman will likely undergo some type of a mental health evaluation. The officer and Jackman sustained no injuries, with Jackman taken to The Lapeer County Jail and booked initially on the listed charges.
