A woman drowned while trying to save her dog from an icy pond, according to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, December 11, officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a home on Armstrong Road in Goodland Township for a possible drowning.
Upon arrival, first responders noted the pond was iced over with an area of open water towards the center. First responders could also see the family dog floating in the water, apparently deceased. Members of several local fire departments recovered the body of the homeowner, a 30-year-old woman, who had presumably gone onto the one-inch thick ice to try and save her dog.
The woman was transported to McLaren Lapeer Hospital but was ultimately pronounced deceased around 7:50 p.m. The case remains under active investigation.
