Croswell-Lexington Community School’s Board of Education ended 2024 with their selection and filling of the vacant board member position.Board secretary Amie Stillson resigned in November, having since been hired on as a math teacher at the district’s high school. She was honored for her many years of service and dedication to Croswell-Lexington’s Board of Education. Each board member rated the 6 prospective candidates on a scale from 0 to 25 based on their letters of interest and related questionnaires, which were due on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Patti Shinn voted to abstain due to a conflict of interest. The tallies were tabulated with Veronica Tyynismaa receiving an average of 18, 21 for Wilbert Morris, 23.4 for Jacob Garza, 22.6 for Patti Shinn, and 21.8 for David Graham. Nick St. James was not considered as he failed to submit the required questionnaire. As the first choice selection, Jacob Garza will fill the vacant position for one term from December 16, 2024, to December 31, 2026.
The board also approved the 2023/2024 audit report by Anderson, Tuckey, Bernhardt & Doran, P.C., in addition to the purchase of a new pole vault pit for $45,000. The total cost accounts for both the pit and other updates to the sports equipment.
Since he was not present, Garza will be given the oath of office at next month’s meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025.
