The Croswell City Council held its first meeting of 2025 this past Monday, butting heads over the mayor pro tempore position and delivering their evaluations on City Administrator Dave Tait.
A paper ballot vote for mayor was held with 3 votes being cast for Rob Butler and 1 for Donald Maury. Butler was ultimately reelected as the mayor and sworn in by City Clerk Suzanne Dobson. Due to Randy Willis’ absence, a second vote for the mayor pro tempore resulted in a stalemate between Denise Slone and Donald Maury. Another vote will take place on Tuesday, January 21.
In addition, Resolution #01-06-2025 #1 Water Deficit Elimination Plan was approved at Monday night’s meeting. As of June 20, 2024, the City of Croswell’s Water Fund has a deficit of $166,439. A 4.6% increase in water rates for 2024-2025 was proposed. This was due to a high-water user having been found to have had a defective meter that has since been replaced.
The council finished off their meeting by entering into a closed session to review their evaluation of City Administrator Dave Tait. Evaluations were sent out to council members and were due on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Each member rated Tait on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “Unsatisfactory” and 5 being “Outstanding.”
Some of the criteria also required members to note his internal relationships and management skills, external relationships among the community, and personnel characteristics. Tait received an overall score of 3.8 out of 5.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m.
