Tuscola County Commissioner Thomas Young passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was 74 years old.
Young, who represented Akron, Columbia, Elkland, Elmwood, Fairgrove, Gilford and Wisner as part of District 1, also served as the board’s vice chair and finance committee chair.
First elected to his role as commissioner in 2016, Young was reelected to his seat this past November election. Young’s political experience began much earlier, having served 20 years as a Unionville village council member and four years as township supervisor for Fremont Township.
Due to a state statute, the Tuscola County Board of Commissioners have 30 days to appoint a new board member to serve out the remainder of Young’s four-year term.
