A possible social media threat led to Caro Schools’ students being released Friday afternoon under law enforcement monitoring.
Caro High School administration became aware of a possible school threat via social media around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, January 24. Two Caro students had received a snapchat message indicating a threat to commit violence at a school.
Caro School Resource Officers, in cooperation with Superintendent George Ryerson, determined quickly that the threat was not originating from Caro Schools or any Tuscola County school system. The threat originated outside of the school system and possibly even from out of state.
Still, the decision was made to secure the school district and institute a systematic and controlled release of students using Caro Schools Transportation.
School was released at the normal time at 3:18 P.M. under the eyes of staff and Law Enforcement. Caro Police and Tuscola County Sheriff Department officers and deputies monitored the release of students at all school venues.
