Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting by an officer that killed a man during a domestic violence call in St. Clair County’s Port Huron Township.
Lapeer Post troopers and St. Clair County deputies responded to a domestic violence/disturbance call at a home in the 4000 block of Dove Road about 7:50 PM yesterday, February 12, 2025. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 52-year-old man had been involved in an altercation with family members who called 911.
When officers arrived on scene, the man exited the home with a gun in his hand and was uncooperative, making threats and refusing multiple commands from officers to drop the gun. In response to the threat, a trooper then utilized his duty pistol, striking him. Officers rendered first aid at the scene until the suspect was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
All incidents that involve a trooper discharging their firearm are immediately investigated. As such, the MSP 2nd District Special Investigation Section and Northville MSP Crime Lab responded to the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation. In accordance with policy, the trooper involved has been placed on leave.
The investigation remains ongoing and once complete, all information, including video evidence, will be turned over to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
