Several people were injured after a Saturday evening collision between a passenger car and a side-by-side UTV in St. Clair County’s Berlin Township.
Just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, St. Clair County Central Dispatch received reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a side-by-side UTV at the intersection of Berville Road and Masters Road in Berlin Township.
Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Richmond/Lenox EMS and the Berlin Township Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Initial scene investigation concluded that a 2022 Kawasaki Mule UTV was being operated westbound on Masters Road by a 16-year-old Berlin Township girl, with her passenger being a 15-year-old girl from Armada. The Kawasaki failed to yield to a southbound Chevrolet Equinox, being driven by an 80-year-old Armada man with an 81-year-old female passenger also from Armada.
The two vehicles collided within the intersection causing both occupants of the UTV to be ejected from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries. All injured parties were transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital.
Excessive speed, alcohol use and drug use do not appear to be factors with either of the involved vehicles. The St. Clair County Crash Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
