A Clay Township man is dead following a two vehicle collision in Cottrellville Township on Tuesday.

St. Clair County Central Dispatch received reports around 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Shea and Starville Roads in Cottrellville Township.

Initial reports were that one vehicle had rolled over with entrapment. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, the Clay Township Police Department, Ira Township Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS responded to the scene.

The initial investigation concluded that Joseph Richard Quesnell, a 52-year-old Clay Township man, was southbound on Starville Road, approaching the intersection in a 2024 Ford Ranger. Video evidence showed that the vehicle stopped and began to proceed through the intersection where it was struck by a westbound 2019 Ram pickup operated by a 25-year-old Clay Township man. Joseph Richard Quesnell was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the Ram is cooperating with the investigation and at this time alcohol, drugs and excessive speed do not appear to be factors. The incident is being investigated by the St. Clair County Crash Investigation Team.
