The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners held their April meeting on Tuesday, April 15, receiving (and approving) several reports from 2024 through 2025.

Board members awarded their recent bid for four police vehicles to Berger Chevrolet of Grand Rapids. The new vehicles will be assigned to the Uniform Services Division, with the cost not to exceed $215,944. The police vehicle and road commission funds will help fund their purchase.

The commissioners also approved a report on the 2024-2025 County Equalized Value, with that value totaling around $4,075,408,342, which is a combination of $3,849,547,785 of Real Property–agricultural, commercial, industrial, or residential–and $225,860,557 of personal property. The total assessed values for many of these properties increased by around 10.59%, and the county’s taxable value by 5.94%. These differences were partially caused by fluctuations in inflation set by the state and properties being sold.

Work on the Spring Creek drain in Peck is also expected to begin in the next few months and will be fully funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). It is expected to replace several drain culverts to help with stormwater collection.

One of the last reports received by the council was the Annual MSU Extension Report for 2024 by District 10 Director Karley Creguer. According to the presentation, agricultural-related programs offered by Michigan State University are being utilized by numerous Sanilac County residents. Over 1,216 participants attended 36 programs physically held in Sanilac County, with 2,081 participating in 252 programs either across the state or online.

The next Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, at 1 p.m. in the County Courthouse.
