Sanilac County agriscience educator Jasmine McNary has been named this year’s Young Agriculture Employee Award winner.
This award, given to young Michigan farmers between the ages of 18-35, recognizes both farm employees and agricultural professionals for their workplace contributions. Nominees for the award were judged based on their leadership in Farm Bureau, agriculture, and the community. As an educator for high school juniors and seniors, McNary maintains a thriving livestock inventory of 16 sheep, five heads of cattle, 30 egg-laying chickens, 150 meat chickens, 24 meat rabbits, two sows, eight fair hogs, and four goats.
“I’m proud of improving animal health and increasing herd sizes within the program, as well as increasing the number of students involved,” she said. “One of my ambitions for the future is to increase student involvement within Farm Bureau, during, and after high school. A second goal is to increase our success in FFA competitions as a reflection of improved teaching strategies.”
She also thanked her Farm Bureau membership for building a supportive network for her current (and future) agricultural endeavors.
