Tuesday was a big day as the Port Huron Police Department proudly hosted their Elementary Police Academy.
This one day camp was open to elementary-aged kids from across St. Clair County, with almost 40 children spending the day with School Resource Officers Alex Allen of Port Huron Northern High School, Ashley Marcano of Port Huron High School, Adam Luttrell, and Community Service Officer Sam Baker to get a behind-the-scenes look at police work. This included hands-on experience with police equipment, exploration of patrol vehicles and learning about evidence collection and fingerprinting.
The day was kicked off with a welcome from Chief Brian Kerrigan, with attendees also seeing a demonstration from Officer Andrew Teichow and his K9 partner, Zeke. The kids also completed an obstacle course and met First Responder Therapy Dog Willow.
The Port Huron Police Department gives a big thanks to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, Holland Woods Middle School and Port Huron Schools for their partnership and continued support.
The department will continue summer programming with their three-day Middle School Academy, also happening this week.
