(PORT AUSTIN) — The Huron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a group of kayakers yelling for help offshore in the Jenks Park area of Port Austin Township Tuesday night. While responding, deputies learned that the kayakers had found an individual who had flipped his Sea Doo Personal Watercraft about two miles offshore. When the watercraft became almost totally submerged, the 51-year old from Texas removed his life jacket and decided to swim to shore before becoming fatigued and calling for help. Upon rescuing the man, officers learned that he was wanted on five out of county warrants. He was eventually taken info custody and turned over to outside police authorities. The Huron County Sheriff’s Department reminds boaters and swimmers to never attempt swimming to shore unless absolutely necessary.
