Carsonville woman seriously hurt in crash with farm implement

(SANILAC TOWNSHIP) — A 19-year old Carsonville woman was air lifted from the scene of a crash involving a farm implement Wednesday afternoon in Sanilac Township. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies say the crash near the intersection of Washington and Goetze Roads happened around 2:45 p.m. The tractor, hauling a liquid fertilizer spreader, was traveling west on Washington Road when the driver, 30-year old Josh Tanton of Deckerville, slowed to turn north onto Goetze. Deputies say the driver of the Chrysler Lebaron following the tractor, Coleen Kelley, didn’t stop in time and collided with the back of the fertilizer spreader, causing the vehicle to become trapped underneath. The Carsonville Fire Department and Port Sanilac Rescue used Jaws of Life to free Kelley from her vehicle. She was then air lifted from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw for treatment of her injuries. Deputies say Kelley was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol was not a factor.
