Huron County Sheriff Deputies rescue lost kayaker

(SEBEWAING) — Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson is reminding kayakers to take proper precautions when hitting the waterways after reporting a significant increase of kayak-related incidents in the area. On Monday, Huron Central Dispatch received a call from a lone kayaker who had become lost while traveling to Sebewaing from the Quanicassee area. The 66 year old man was located by Huron County Sheriff’s Department Marine Deputies shortly after 7:30 Monday evening just south of the Sebewaing River entrance. Deputies gave the man a ride into Sebewaing and suggested that he purchase a GPS before continuing his trip.
Sheriff Hanson says that over the Labor Day weekend alone, Marine Deputies issued seven life jack tickets to kayakers and verbally warned at least a dozen more. He reminds kayakers that the sport can turn deadly unless properly equipped and familiar with all aspects of safe kayaking.
