Meeting in special session on Wednesday evening, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners named former Marlette Mayor Don Redman to fill the unexpired term of the late 4th district commissioner Jim Ruby. The term will expire on December 31st.
Following the commissioners’ meeting, the Sanilac County Republican Executive Committee met and named Robert Conely of Flynn Township as a replacement candidate for Ruby on the November General Election ballot. According to election rules, only Conely’s name will be on the November ballot, however 4th district residents are free to run as write-in candidates.
Redman and Conely both indicated an interest in running for the open seat in November. There were four other applicants who were interested in filling the remainder of Ruby’s term. The 4th district includes, Buel, Elk, Flynn, Elmer and Marlette townships, as well as the city of Marlette.
