Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle collision just after noon Wednesday in Sanilac County’s Delaware Township.
According to Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki, a semi truck driven by a 70-year-old Florida man was traveling east on Bay City-Forestville Road when the driver failed to stop at the intersection of Ruth Road, striking the driver’s side of a northbound pickup driven by a 50-year-old Ruth man.
The impact caused the pickup to go airborne and land upside down in a deep drainage ditch. A Delaware Township Firefighter, who was in the area when the crash occurred, and several other citizens were able to lift the truck enough to pull the driver from the vehicle. He was unconscious and not breathing. Rescuers preformed CPR and were able to resuscitate the man. He was taken to Deckerville Hospital then later flown by Flightcare to Covenant Hospital for treatment.
A passenger in the pickup, a 27-year-old Bad Axe man, was able to free himself from the vehicle. He was taken to Harbor Beach Hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by several other agencies. The Accident Investigation Team was called out to conduct an investigation.
