(Sandusky) -Sandusky School Superintendent Michael Carmean has informed WMIC-WTGV NEWS that Kurt Long submitted his resignation as girls 8th grade basketball coach on Friday. It was just two days after he was appointed to the coaching position by the School Board.
In a short statement, Long said that he regretted the controversy that the hiring caused. At last Wednesday’s board meeting he was hired as coach on a 4-2 vote, after the board heard from a number of residents who expressed views both for and against the hiring. Long resigned from the district as both teacher and coach in 2013, after being involved in an incident involving high school students.
A number of people spoke to the Board during the meeting, both in favor of the hiring and those opposed to it. Board President Dr. Robert Hassler said a majority of the board was satisfied, after interviews by both Superintendent Michael Carmean and Athletic Director Al DeMott with Long were conducted. Hassler said he trusts the administration on doing their due diligence and voted accordingly.
